You Deserve Something New This Year!

By admin December 31, 2019

With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays all wrapped up for another year, it’s time to pat yourself on the back for another job well done! Whether it was getting all the gifts wrapped and cards mailed out, serving that perfect meal for family and friends, or planning for that perfect timing to ring in the New Year, all that hard work paid off. Just like that perfect smile – there’s lots to show off there, but it takes some good work in the background to keep it looking perfect. Good oral hygiene like brushing twice a day, flossing at least once, and routine visits to the dentist are important, but also the tools you use daily to keep those pearly whites.

You should replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or when the bristles look worn and bent. A worn brush can also damage your gums! After brushing, rinse your toothbrush thoroughly and allow to air-dry, don’t store in closed containers that can incubate bacterial growth. Store it standing up, and don’t let the head touch any other brush heads.

Most dental professionals agree that a soft-bristled brush is best for removing plaque and debris from your teeth. Harder bristles can cause tooth abrasion that leads to an irreversible loss of tooth structure and unnecessary enamel wear. If you’re thinking of needing a firmer brush, an electric brush may be more effective before moving up. Small-headed brushes are also preferable, since they can better reach all areas of the mouth, including hard-to-reach back teeth.

If you’re not sure if you’ve got the right toothbrush for the job, come by our office so Dr. Audrey can help you determine your perfect fit. Make replacing your toothbrush, one of the first things you’ll complete on your to do list this New Year!
